Description

6 Hour Online Course

Instructor: Tyler Orr

Credits: 6 (EMDRIA and Professional CE available)

As EMDR therapists, we see things like panic attacks, depression, and intrusive thoughts as symptoms—not the problem. The same is true for most chronic pain and illness. Pain is often a symptom and indicator of something deeper that is going on in the client’s system. In order to effectively treat chronic pain, we must do more than simply treat the symptom. It is necessary to reprocess the early adverse experiences that are at the root. This training will cover ways to work with pain in all eight phases.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will be able to summarize how current pain neuroscience can be applied to the EMDR model
  2. Participants will be able to communicate how pain is produced by the brain, not the body
  3. Participants will be able to identify ways of working with pain in phase one by using pain-informed history taking
  4. Participants will be able to identify ways of working with pain in phase two including pain education and somatic resourcing
  5. Participants will be able to target for reprocessing the adverse childhood experiences that are at the root of persistent pain
  6. Participants will be able to use the basic EMDR protocol to reprocess pain in phases three through eight
  7. Participants will be able to identify symptoms and medical conditions commonly associated with sensitization of the nervous system
  8. Participants will be able to describe how early life experiences and attachment patterns influence pain in adulthood
